FAQ

Common Ohio QDRO questions.

General answers only. Contact the office for case-specific guidance.

What is a QDRO?

A Qualified Domestic Relations Order is a court order used to divide certain retirement plan benefits after divorce or legal separation.

Do all retirement plans need the same order?

No. ERISA plans, federal pensions, TSP accounts, military retired pay, and state or public plans may require different order types and language.

Can parties contact OhioQDRO directly?

Parties may ask initial questions, but legal work and document submission should be coordinated through counsel unless an engagement allows otherwise.

What documents are usually needed?

Common items include the divorce decree or draft settlement terms, plan name, recent benefit statements, plan documents if available, dates of marriage and divorce, and any administrator instructions.

Why do QDROs get rejected?

Common problems include vague decree language, incorrect plan names, survivor benefit issues, missing gains/losses language, unsupported valuation assumptions, or terms the plan cannot administer.

Are the listed fees guaranteed?

The fee schedule lists starting prices. Complex cases, expedited deadlines, missing documents, contested issues, or additional calculations can require a custom quote.
